IT'S NEW! IT'S ORIGINAL!

AQUA AEROBICS UNLIMITED brings you a fresh new approach to music for water exercise.

Larry Hudspeth and Ian Smith are both multi-talented musicians, and they are writing, composing, playing, and recording original instrumental music for water exercise workouts. This is unique in our industry, and you will notice the difference!

As of May 2002 we have two CD's to offer to you. The music is an energetic mix of jazzy rock, Latin and African styles, using guitars, saxophones, flutes, marimba, drums, and many percussion instruments. All tracks are instrumental. You have a full 60 minutes of music on each CD, perfect for a full workout without changing the music!

  1. First, the CD is 60 minutes long. If you use this music from beginning to end you will get 10 minutes of warm up tempos, 30 minutes of faster music for cardio, 10 minutes of post cardio tempos and about 10 minutes of ambient music for stretching and relaxing.
  2. The music is all instrumental. The instructor's voice is most easily heard in the pool when there are no other sounds in the same frequency range, like a singer, to compete with it.
  3. We use a lot of drums and hand percussion instruments. Percussion instruments tend to have narrow frequency ranges and are mostly high-pitched sounds. These sounds can usually be easily heard even through the other distracting sounds of indoor swimming pool rooms. This is helpful to your students in the water to always be able to hear a clear sense of the rhythmic pulse in order to achieve a continuous, rhythmic and vigorous pace necessary for cardiovascular benefit.
  4. We use a variety of acoustic instruments including, tenor and alto saxophones, silver and wood flutes and whistles, electric and acoustic guitars (6 and 12 string) and bass, marimba and a variety of hand drums and percussion instruments. We don't use synthesizers or drum machines. We try to write songs with a variety of rhythms and tonal color throughout the 60 minutes.
  5. We have also tried to leave plenty of space in the music for the instructor to instruct and to be heard.

Recommendations for music in the Pool Room:

  • Get the best music system you can afford
  • Get a system with a graphic equalizer and learn to use it.
  • Put your speakers on the floor tilted slightly down at the water directly at the people in the pool.
  • Balance the music with your microphone volume so that you don't have to yell. Be sure everyone in the pool is comfortable with the volume.
